What do I need to start class?
Puppies need a minimum of two sets of vaccinations before they can attend a group class. Your vet may tell you to wait until your puppy has all 3 sets of shots before going anywhere. While this does minimize the risk of illness, you also miss out on the critical socialization window of 8-16 weeks! We keep a very clean facility and check the vaccinations of every dog who walks through our doors, so two rounds of vaccines is enough to be welcome in our programs. The sooner you start training, the better! Adult dogs must be current on all vaccines (rabies, distemper, bordatella) or have proof of titers.
Do I need to sign up online or can I pay when I get there?
We highly recommend at least reserving your class spot online or via phone prior to you planning to attend. Our online portal is user friendly and once you sign up you can sign up and pay for classes there. If you prefer not to pay online, you can also register over the phone or in person during our regular business hours. Our classes typically fill up and we can not guarantee that there will be space available on the day the class starts!
What do I need to bring to training?
Please bring your dog’s most up to date vaccination records to the first class (if you are unable to upload them to our client portal). In addition to your dog, you'll need to bring a flat collar and/or harness with a four foot leash. You will need lots of small treats to reward your dog (make sure to choose one your dog loves!) and we recommend using a treat pouch. We sell all of those items and more in our retail store, so come to class a few minutes early if you'd like to do some shopping!
We also suggest that owners bring poop bags in case their dogs need to do their business. If you forget to bring poop bags, we keep them handy at our two waste stations located near the front and side doors.
Should I take a puppy class or a manners class?
If your puppy is 7 months or younger on the class start date, you should enroll in our "Good Puppy!" level 1 class. If your puppy is over 7 months old when the class begins, you should enroll in our "Good Dog!" level 1 manners class. Is your dog right on the border? Contact us and we can discuss which class is the best fit for your dog.
Can more than one person come to class?
Please do! We recommend that one person works with the dog at a time, but other family members or friends are welcome to attend class and observe. We want everyone on the same page with training! If you are bringing a child under 10, please be sure they stay with you during the duration of class and bring an item to keep the occupied should they lose interest.
Can my child handle the dog during class?
Children between 12 and 17 are welcome to attend training and can handle their dog with parental supervision. Children under 12 may still attend, but we ask that a parent works with the dog during class.
Do you work with aggressive dogs?
No, aggressive dogs are not allowed in the facility for liability reasons. Please contact us for a referral to our wonderful behaviorist partners to help with aggression. Very fearful, frustrated, or extremely over zealous dog may require a private lesson prior to starting group classes to be sure they're ready for the environment. If you're not sure whether or not your dog is exhibiting aggression or any of the other listed behaviors, please give us a call or fill out the contact form on our contact us page.
Do you offer service dog training?
We offer service dog training on a very limited basis. Dogs must have passed the advanced Canine Good Citizen test before beginning any public access or task training with us. We recommend starting in our "Good Dog!" manners program (depending on your dog's age) and working your way through the CGC class if service work is your goal.
Can you help with potty training?
Yes! If you are enrolled in our puppy classes, we will go over this in class. Otherwise, please schedule a 30-minute private in the facility. We'll look at where you're having trouble, come up with a game plan to fix it, and schedule a quick follow-up to make sure you don't run into any more problems. Potty training is also worked on during your dog's stay in our board and train or daycare programs.
What's your return/cancellation/refund policy?
All of our policies are outlined on our Terms, Conditions, and Policies page. Cancellation policies are also included in the confirmation email you receive when booking a class or appointment.
